Aims and scope of JSIAM

The Japan Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (JSIAM) is the central organization for industrial and applied mathematicians in Japan. It currently has more than 1,600 individual members and 25 corporate members including Toyota, Nissan, Toshiba, Hitachi, NEC, and Canon. The JSIAM's objective is to foster the mathematical sciences and engineering mathematics which contribute to the innovation of science and technology. It is a cross-disciplinary society consisting of people researching mathematical phenomena (in mathematics as well as in other sciences), those who apply mathematics (engineering, technology), and those who develop methods of analysis (computer science, experimental science).

Activities of JSIAM

In order to contribute to progress in this field, the JSIAM has been conducting the following activities in order to support applied and industrial mathematics in academia, as well as in industry.

  • Publications of articles
    • Japan Journal of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (Springer, three issues a year, in English)
    • JSIAM Letters (Electronic journal, in English)
    • Bulletin of the Japan Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (Quarterly, in Japanese)
    • JSIAM Online Magazine (As needed, in Japanese)
    • Transactions of the Japan Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (Quarterly, in Japanese)
  • Publication of "Series: Applied Mathematics", textbooks for advanced topics (in Japanese)
  • Holding of two conferences a year
  • Commendation of individuals who have made significant achievements in industrial and applied mathematics
  • Holding lectures, tutorials and symposia, etc.
